Neck Lift

A neck lift can improve the contour of the neck and create a more attractive, angular neckline by removing fatty accumulation under the neck skin and tightening the deeper muscle layer.

Complications of a neck lift include hematoma (pooling of blood under the skin that must be surgically removed), infection and reaction to anesthesia. Poor healing of the skin can affect smokers. Hair around temples may be thin and skin may feel dry for several months. Men may find they must shave behind neck and ears, where areas of beard-growing skin have been repositioned. When procedure is performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon, complications are infrequent and usually resolve themselves.

Patients can return to work after two weeks of recovery. Rest and the application of cold compresses for 48 hours after surgery, followed by gradual resumption of daily activities are recommended. At first, features may be distorted from swelling, facial movements may be somewhat stiff. Bruising may persist for several weeks. Moisturizer may be applied avoiding suture areas. Camouflage makeup may be used within one week following surgery. It’s advised to avoid strenuous activities, alcohol, steam baths and saunas for several weeks. Also, patients should limit exposure to the sun for several months. And, as always, use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15.

The affects of the surgery lasts five to ten years. While you will always look younger than if you had not had a neck lift, the aging process will continue. Therefore, you may want to have the procedure repeated at a later date.
