Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a quick, safe and effective form of exfoliation for all skin types and colors with no downtime and virtually no discomfort. Microdermabrasion affects the outer layer of skin, the epidermis, by exfoliating the dead skin cells of your face, neck, chest or other areas. This is a treatment that many people like because it is not nearly as abrasive as dermabrasion or a chemical peel. Although results are subtler, those who have had the treatment find that their skin is more radiant, make-up goes on better, and pigmentation is evened out.

Microdermabrasion can treat brown sun spots, hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone, aging and dry skin, large pores, and may help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Your skin will look and feel healthier, smoother and more refreshed after this treatment. A more even skin tone and texture are key benefits. Any body area can be treated with the most common areas being the face, neck, chest, shoulders, back, hands, knees and elbows.

Microdermabrasion works by exfoliating the dead skin cells from the outer layer of your skin. Approximately every 28 days we create a new layer of skin. As new cells form, they push their way to the surface and the dead cells settle on the surface. This can cause enlarged pores, clogged pores, a bumpy uneven texture, and a dull appearance. As we age, this process slows down leading to the appearance of older skin with less radiance.

To exfoliate these dead skin cells, the microdermabrasion equipment uses aluminum oxide crystals that are expelled from a handheld device placed against your skin. As the device is vacuumed across the skin's surface, the particles remove or ablate the dead skin. The sensation felt is fairly mild and will leave the skin feeling like it has a slight sun or wind burn.

The Gemini™ microdermabrasion system is a new, compact, state of the art, skin peeling system. It has two unique handpieces allowing practitioners to perform hypoallergenic laser cut, diamond resurfacing treatments, and fine crystal and all natural, organic grain peeling treatments. The duration of each treatment is significantly reduced and the peeling precision unparalleled, providing visible results after the first treatment.

Depending on the area being treated, the procedure can take between 20 and 40 minutes. A moisturizing sun block is usually applied after the procedure is completed. Typically, most people go through a series of four to eight treatments at intervals of one to three weeks to achieve their desired results. Generally results are more noticeable after the third treatment. Although, after the first session the skin will appear fresher, cleaner, smoother and softer for some clients. Maintenance treatments are suggested once every one to two months.

Microdermabrasion causes little inconvenience or discomfort and most people can return to work immediately after the treatment. After the treatment, a slight tingling sensation may be experienced and the skin may feel tighter, as if exposed to the wind or sun. The skin may also appear slightly flushed, however, this generally fades in 12-24 hours. Extra hydrating soothing products are recommended, especially for the first 72 hours. Remember to wear sunscreen after the treatment, since your skin will be more susceptible to the light. DO NOT EXERCISE immediately after treatment, where perspiration is created. The perspiration may stimulate a stinging sensation that can take several hours to dissipate.
