Liposuction
Male and female bodies distribute excess body fat differently. For both men and women, liposuction can be used to diminish the volume of fat in certain anatomic locations, and improve the overall body contour. Liposuction is not a safe means of weight-loss, and is never a replacement for healthy diet management and a sound exercise routine. In fact, the best results with liposuction are seen in patients close to their ideal body weight. The maintenance of a stable body weight and routine exercise habits help enhance the post operative look.
Liposuction is a procedure done while the patient is asleep. Small tubes are used to evacuate fat in regions that need therapy. Great care is used to limit liposuction in other regions that are known to result in contour deformities. It is essential that the surgery be done with close attention to the amount of fat removed, and the amount of fluid replacement that you are given.
Liposuction can be done in combination with other procedures. When a procedure is lengthy, or a significant amount of liposuction is done, patients may be admitted to a post-operative care unit overnight for observation. If multiple regions need liposuction, then the procedure can be broken down into steps that can be completed during a couple of separate procedures. Patient safety is of critical importance.
We ask our patients to remain active during the immediate post-operative period, as this helps to prevent deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) and speeds recovery. Additionally, you will be asked to a wear a light compression garment (such as one made of Spandex) for two weeks post operatively to help maintain your new shape.
