Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
When an individual looks into the mirror, the appearance of the eyes is typically the first sign he or she might notice looking “older.”
The eye is composed of layers of skin, muscle and fat. Like the rest of our body, they change with time and the effects of gravity. Every eye is different, but a few patterns are common among people. The outside edges of the upper lids droop and sag and the eyelid skin begins to take on a crepe paper-like appearance. The skin around the upper and lower lid loses its elasticity and snap. The youthful hollow between eyebrow and upper lid slowly closes down. A distinct bulging of fat in the lower lid makes the eye look puffy and tires.
These changes can be addressed in an operation called a blepharoplasty on upper, lower, or both eyelids. The procedure can be combined with other facial plastic procedures. Some patients are not ideal candidates for this type of surgery, and Dr. Sattler will assess whether the procedure is safe for you. Eyelid surgery is done frequently for women, however, male patients find a “bleph”' to be an acceptable entree into facial rejuvenation due to its minimal downtime and often dramatically improved post operative appearance.
